“Kate Middleton’s Worst Makeup Fails: The Shocking Truth Behind Her Beauty Blunders”

Kate Middleton is considered a style icon by many, and for good reason. But this is not how it always was. Middleton’s fashion sense went a major change after entering the royal family due to marrying into it. Yet she’s faced a few style controversies, some considering her outfits inappropriate. After all, she’s only human! With a few fashion missteps under her belt, she’s also suffered plenty of makeup fails over the years that’ll probably make you cringe.

While Catherine, Princess of Wales, is typically flawless from her accessories to her cosmetics (even doing recovery), she’s had her bad days, like the rest of us have. From a shocking eyeliner faux pas to major contouring issues, here are the biggest makeup mistakes (let’s face it, we all have them) this royal has made.

Not wearing lipstick washes her out

Although she often wears eye makeup, she sometimes leaves the house with no lipstick on. Nothing wrong with a more muted look, but given her complexion and thin lips, not putting on lipstick looks bad. Pair it with a lott of black mascara and it’s just a look that doesn’t add up.

She can over-contour, leading to an awkward look

When Kate Middleton’s attended the Ring O’Fire Ultra Marathon in summer 2013, she was experimenting with contouring. Although the contouring was done to accentuate Middleton’s gorgeous cheekbones, it’s a case of less was more. When it comes to contouring, knowing when to lay down the brush is crucial, and as much as it likely looked like a seamless look on her when she tried it out in the mirror, this over contouring fail is a timely reminder: always check your profile twice before heading out the door. Place too much contour on your cheeks and it’s a streak — not a highlight.

Wearing too much eyeliner underneath her eyes

At the annual Remembrance Sunday Service at the Cenotaph on Nov. 13th, 2016, this royal chose a more somber look to pay tribute to those hurt or killed in the war. Her outfit was all-black, including a hat, and she topped that off with layers of eyeliner. She then applied more of the eye makeup to the bottom lid than was necessary, giving her more of a raccoon-chic than smoky-eye look. She has managed to cut down on eyeliner — a nice, dewy face these days.

Another use of heavy eye makeup takes over

Oodles of eye makeup just weren’t necessary the day Kate Middleton was born. When the Princess of Wales was in Germany and Poland on tour in 2017 with her husband, she met the former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. For the visit, she had on thick blue eyeshadow and mascara that glopped her lashes together, giving her a smudged, smeary look that played up jet lag instead of camouflaging it.

A final look proves Kate Middleton should avoid cakey eye makeup

If these gaffes have taught us (and Kate) one thing, it’s that the classy and timeless royal Kate should keep her makeup looks simple, avoiding heavy, cakey, and colorful eye makeup. At first, it seemed like a smart choice as she wore a dark brown eyeshadow. It the outfit and her hazel eyes and brown hair — but a smoky eye just looked cakey. Rather than accentuating her elegance, it deepened the lines around her eyes, dropped into the creases.

The smokey eyes is crucial, however, when you apply this assume that it mixes utterly well in your eyelids to give you an additional natural look that doesn’t expose your crow’s feet. Had this dark, smoky brown look been put together with more professionalism, it might have seen the history books as one of her best looks.

Admit it, we’ve all slipped up on makeup, and with practice we improve. Blending is rule number one is learned and if you aren’t super pro at doing your face, it’s okay to strip it down and simplify how much makeup you put on.
