2 Advocate Health Care nurses at hospitals in Libertyville, Barrington receive nurse of year awards

Victoria Lozano, a registered nurse specializing in diabetes care and education at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington, was chosen as a 2024 Nurse of the Year “in recognition of her exemplary demonstration of the core nursing values of Advocate Health Care and her unwavering delivery of best-in-class care,” the health system said.
Nurses at Advocate Health are “committed to delivering exceptional, evidence-based and equitable care for all,” said Jane Dus, Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer of Advocate Health – Midwest Region.
“It is a true honor to see firsthand the amazing impact they have on changing lives every day through their innovative and compassionate care,” Dus said.
Lozano knew she wanted to go into nursing after realizing her love of science combined with her desire to help others.

She was motivated to pursue diabetes education at a young age after her brother was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
Lozano observed their family’s physician never provided the education needed for her parents to properly manage of her brother’s disease and being a native Spanish-speaking family meant the language barrier was even more of a disconnect.
