So, 11 years into a career as a nurse and seven years as a certified diabetes care and education specialist, Lozano has become the nurse her family needed all those years ago.
“I have a very close heart to diabetes. “I absolutely enjoy empowering my patients and community and family and educating them,” Lozano said.
Her work is not limited to the hospital. She runs a diabetes support group and has also started a secondary support group for Spanish speakers.
Lozano also offers diabetes education and training at local schools and community organizations.
“Victoria is an exceptional nurse with a unique ability to connect in a meaningful way with her patients,” said Mary Roesch, Chief Nursing Officer at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
“She’s also an excellent representative of our hospital when she’s out in the community doing important diabetes education,” Roesch said.
“My patients often need someone to see them and believe that they are capable of success and this Nurse of the Year acknowledgment gives me the same feeling of encouragement,” Lozano said.
A second Advocate Health Care nurse, Leah Stein-Fredbeck, an assistant clinical manager at the New Life Center at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, also was named a 2024 Nurse of the Year for her “exemplary demonstration” of Advocate Health Care’s core nursing values and “unwavering delivery” of best-in-class care.
