“Advocate Health nurses are dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based and equitable care for all. It’s a true honor being able to see their phenomenal impact in changing lives through innovative and compassionate care every single day,” Dus said.
Studying nursing at Chamberlain University in Addison, Stein-Fredbeck discovered her interest in women’s health, particularly looking after birthing women.
She has worked at Advocate Condell for just under 11 years and is recognized for leading the unit and for her compassion for her patients.
“Leah is truly a leader among her peers and is the chair of our house-wide Shared Governance Council which guides nursing practice and improves clinical outcomes,” said Rachel Loberg, Chief Nursing Officer at Advocate Condell.
“Furthermore, Leah always undertakes more than her share in being co-chair of our Perinatal Bereavement Committee to ensure that families dealing with this devastating loss receive support throughout multiple phases of grieving,” Loberg said.
“The beauty of nursing is no two days are really the same and the joy in it is you can always do something different because nursing is unlimited,” Stein-Fredbeck said.
“It is humbling to be recognized as Nurse of the Year; it is wonderful to read what my nominator wrote about me, and to know that my peers think highly of me,” she added.
More than 1,200 nominations were received on behalf of nurses from a diverse range of practice specialties across the patient care continuum for the top award.
Clinicians and teammates submitted nominations, which were reviewed by peer committees.
